March into action

Well, it is March. last year, the entire garden was planted by this time. I spent all of February planting. This year, we have far more frozen days in February.

Time to do things. Yesterday we planted about 10 beds to fodder pasture for the animals. I spent a good 6 hours on it, maybe. The work included raking up old material, leveling uneven spots where the animals had dug things up and then I planted a thick amount of seeds into trenches. This method seems to be great for fodder beds. It is so easy and simple.

We have wrapped the back patio in painting plastic and are using it as a greenhouse. It is working splendidly. There is a basic heat lamp in there for buffering from the cold. We have lettuce, leek, arborvitae, and other plants in there now. A real game changer is keeping things under cover, out of frost, out of wind, but still in the fluctuating temperatures.

The sun is shining, and this is going to have to be a short one. I just wanted to share this saying with you, “March into Action!”

I start saying that about gardening every year in March! Let’s bundle up and go get some gardening done! All the things we do in March are the foundation for the rest of the year.
